While thumbing through the freeholders' publication, Union County Directions, I was surprised, well, maybe not really, to see a picture of Charlotte DeFillippo, head of the Union County Improvement Authority, proudly holding some fugazy award. Naturally this caught my interest since we've had one UCIA failure after another here in Linden. This award was for the Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade. The Promenade was completed how many years ago?
According to the article, the UCIA "utilized" Harbor Consultants of Cranford and the Silcon Group of Elizabeth. The Silcon Group is also the developer of Sky View at Carriage City Plaza in Rahway. Silcon, as seller of those condominiums, had listed "Camelot Title" in its contracts as where buyers could obtain back title. What a cozy arrangement between Silcon and the now defunct Camelot Title Agency.
Anyway, having taken a walk over in the promenade area today, how can anyone take this award or the UCIA seriously anymore? The commercial building is empty and has been since it's been built. Some of the windows look like they've been covered over already, perhaps due to vandalism.
The long ago planned for restaurant has never come to fruition. Other than the summer concerts, and now the Farmer's Market, the entire promenade is virtually useless. It is not the role of government to provide entertainment at taxpayer expense.
Another white elephant on the backs of overtaxed taxpayers. Only in the Soprano State will you find failure being rewarded.

NFS, you hit the nail on the head again. You didn't mention the building behind the Promenade which was supposed to be the library.
I think they are all going to jail
N.J. to announce mortgage fraud indictments
Now defunct Camelot Title Agency has a nice ring to it
COO/general counsel? must be darn dirty
citizens voice breaking news
You're right melinden. I forgot all about the library. These things go on for years and memories fade. Probably why incompetency does pay in NJ.
I don't know ed .... we've had one do nothing attorney general after another so I wouldn't bet on anyone going to jail.
You have to think FEDS
Without Chris Christie at the helm and a new dem. appointed U.S. Attorney on his way in (BTW Senator Menendez wants the new U.S. attorney to focus on gangs, and not the political ones), I have very little faith in anything being accomplished ... at least not to the heights that Christie tackled corruption.
